Business Objects XI R2 using WebLogic 8.1 Middleware Server

2 comments:

  1. Wei,

Can I install the BOBJ XI R2 Enterprise on Solaris 10 and Oracle 10 system without the additional Solaris 10 code BOBJ provides on the or from their ftp site?

In other words, is the code needed to make the BOBJ work on Solaris 10 or is it added for performance reasons or new Solaris functionality?

  2. It depends...
    You didn't mention the middleware.
For Weblogic 8, if you install BO XI R2 on Solaris 10 Global Zone, it should work, but it is upto 8.1.4
According to BO documentation, only Solaris Global Zone installation is supported, it doesn't mean that it won't work on Solaris Local Zone, but you need to figure out IP mappings on virtual server (even a senior network engineer from BO couldn't make it work for us).
Not sure if the new patch would help, but usually patches will fix many security issues.
I recommend you to apply all patches if it is a production server. If you just play with it, BO should work without patches.
